Breast Augmentation

Breast augmentation enhances the size and shape of the breast for a more aesthetically pleasing contour

Breast augmentation is the most popular cosmetic surgery procedure worldwide.

Women have different reasons for choosing to undergo breast augmentation. Many wish to increase breast size, while others may want to change the breasts’ shape, correct breast symmetry or restore volume that was lost due to weight loss, aging and pregnancy. Breast augmentation is also an important step in restoring body’s shape in women affected by breast cancer or other illnesses.

Most importantly, breast augmentation is a way to feel more feminine and more confident in your body. For most women it is a life-changing procedure.

Breast augmentation

Breast augmentation, also known as breast mammoplasty, involves surgically increasing breast size by placing an implant in the breasts. The latest trends in plastic surgery combine implants with fat transfer for a more natural looking result. This procedure is known as Hybrid Breast Augmentation.

During the procedure, implants are placed either under existing breast tissue or under the chest muscle. There are several types of implants that may be used. They vary by their size, the type of the material inside them, the type of shell and the overall shape. The most adequate implant will be discussed during your consultation and it will depend on your body type and your desired results.

Procedure and Recovery

Breast augmentation is performed under general anesthesia for your safety and comfort.

The plastic surgeon starts by making small incisions either around the areola or in the breast crease. Then he proceeds to creating a pocket to place the implant. This breast pocket may be above the chest muscle, below the chest muscle or in-between (Dual Plane Technique). The implant will then be placed in the pocket and centered behind the nipple.

After the surgery, you can expect to return home the same day. Your doctor will give you specific instructions to follow in order to ensure a comfortable and speedy recovery.

It is normal to feel soreness and swelling during the first few days after the surgery. Wearing a support bra or compression bandage will accelerate the healing phase. With time, swelling will subside, your skin will stretch and the implants will settle into a more natural position revealing an enhanced silhouette.
